Just as each student brings individual talent, goals and aspirations, we guarantee that the service you will receive will be equally as personalized.  Listed below are three standard plans for high school students and one for transfer students. We are also able to design a program that meets your needs.  For that reason you may mix and match services with fee for service.

Comprehensive Plan:

First step is a meeting between Jan Kelly and the student and family to explain the process and make certain that the student and family understand their role and the role of the consultant.  For families outside the immediate area, this and all other meetings may take place via phone or internet if requested by the client.

After the initial meeting a contract will be signed and both the student and parent will fill out several questionnaires as well as provide copies of all academic transcripts and standardized test scores.

Services will then include:

  • Review of transcripts, standardized test scores and all extra curricular talents in an effort to know the student and personalize the process. If our work begins prior to the senior year, advice will be given regarding course selection, test prep and other activities as it applies to the college selection process.
  • College list preparation:  Guidance regarding appropriate colleges based on the student's academic preparedness and interests.  Even the strongest student is not guaranteed admission to a particular college in this competitive climate.  The college that might be the best "match" may indeed be one that the student and parent had not considered or dare I say even heard of before.  For that reason it is imperative that all students and families enter into this agreement with an open mind.
  • Campus visit:  Guidance provided as to how to maximize the college visit and to prepare for the interview if provided.
  • Essay preparation:  Editorial assistance in order to assist the student in presenting an essay that will stand out in the large volume of essays read by admissions officers each year.  The consultant will not write the essay however will review and give feedback to as many drafts as desired.  Essay and application review is most effective if done via the internet.
  • Additional essays:  The same editorial advise will be provided for each supplemental essay.
  • Timeline for deadlines:  Assistance and check-ins via e-mail and phone with the student to make certain that all deadlines are met.
  • Review of completed applications:
  • Financial Aid basics: We will teach the basics of financial aid and where to go for further information if desire
  • Follow up after decisions are received to assist the student in making the final decision or to help review wait list information.

Consultation Plan:

  • Initial meeting as described above.
  • College list preparation:  Guidance regarding appropriate colleges based on the students academic preparedness and interests.  Even the strongest student is not guaranteed admission to a particular college in this competitive climate.  The college that might be the best "match" may indeed be one that the student and parent had not considered or dare I say even heard of before.  For that reason it is imperative that all students and families enter into this agreement with an open mind.
  • Assessment of school records and testing.
  • Review of common application college essay.
  • Review of common application essay.
  • Follow up as needed via phone or e-mail.

Jump Start

This program is for the student and family that may already have a list of schools for consideration and who merely need some help to get started and stay on track.

  • Provide a basic game plan/schedule for the application process.
  • Initial meeting at the beginning.
  • One additional  meeting to check in.
  • Review of the list of colleges.
  • Feedback on one application and essay via internet.

Transfer plan

The college consultant will meet with the student and/or parents to prepare a basic game plan/schedule for applying for transfer consisting of  one-on-one meetings as well as phone and e-mail contact.  For the transfer process, the consultant will begin with helping the student articulate the reason for possible transfer and which characteristics would be required in a different college.  In some instances this process may help the student recognize that they are indeed content with their current college.  The process will include

  • Assessment of school records and testing.
  • Telephone e-mail and personal meetings.
  • Prepare basic plan/schedule for applying as transfer deadlines may differ from school to school,
  • Review of potential schools.
  • Review of applications and essays to include common application and common application essay as well as any supplements or supplemental essays.

The consultant will follow the student through the process until May and make recommendations about continued registration at current college based on timing.
